R/C Aircraft Modeling Reviews

Vernon Fly In - September 3-5, 2005

Author: Luella Cousins

Once again the Vernon R/C club put on a first class event over the Labor Day Weekend. Flyers come from Alberta, the United States and all over British Columbia.

Stacy Connacher of Beaver Falls flew his Extra 300 and showed the crowd some extreme flying. This plane is big and carries infusion air bags to help lighten the plane. He has a 10 hp engine on this baby and can he ever fly. If you never wanted to fly before, this guy would have your fingers itching for the controls.

Friar Tuck's mobile food service was at the field all week-end and served some great tasting food to all of those with a hunger. They have become one of the constants at this event. They show up year after year and the food just seems to get better.

The club has members such as Larry Christensen, Betty Ann Northrup amd Lorne Hansen. These guys always show up with a smile and a story or two for the avid flyer. Betty Ann was the master of ceremonies this year and she was as good, if not better, than the guys. I am sure they will like this comment. I heard one lady comment that she must be in radio as she had that type of voice.

The planes were all outstanding examples of the guys who love to fly. They were colorful, excellent detail and there were a lot of people who envied the owners.

The prizes were great but I am afraid I didn't catch who won them so I can report that to you.

The Vernon R/C club has one of the best flying sites in BC and boasts a well-groomed runway. The weather wasn't too hot and the rain held off while we were there . Even the wind didn't get too blustery.

A first class event that I have come to expect from the club and they just never let me down.
