2006 Swap and Shop

Author: Luella Cousins

On November 5th, 2006 the annual Swap and Shop was hosted by the High Country Flyers at the Cavalry Temple. As usual it brought visitors and vendors from 100 Mile House and Vernon as well as numerous people from Kamloops.

With the admission at only a toonie, there was some great planes to see. One of the oddest and most interesting was the open carraige plane with the pilot sitting with the stick between his legs. This was actually operable and when the radio turned on, the servos had the pilot operating the stick which in turn operated the servos. Or so it seemed. This plane was not for sale, it was just for display only.

A small helicopter was being demonstrated in the back corner of the gymnasium, much to the delight of quite a few of the visitors.

Lester's Hobbies from Naksup was on site and as per usual, he had a booming business going. At times he had three other people behind the table helping him out. Christine Meronuik, Rob Dover and Mike Allman all seemed to have a hand in helping Lester keep up with his sales. More than one person made trips to their vehicles to unload their purchases.

The ever present staff of Ernie Kidd and Ron Flack worked the kitchen and the burgers were scrumptious. Hot dogs and donuts were also served with coffee or soft drinks. Lots of work for these guys but do a great job.

The event opened at 10:00 am and ran until 3:00 pm. From what I saw, it remains a popular event and we look forward to it again next year.

Great job!!
