2008 KMAS Annual May Fun Fly

Author: Bill Cousins

On May 11, 2008 Kamloops Model Airplane Society had their annual fun fly. The event started at 9:00 am and went through until 4:00 pm. It could have been a better day as it was cloudy, windy and raining from time to time but it did not dampen the fun of those in attendance. Both flyers and spectators appeared to be enjoying the day.

There was a good contingent of planes from electric to an Extra 300 to a B-25 Mitchell to helicopters. The B-25 Mitchell took the People's Choice award and it was well deserved.

There is always good conversation amongst the pilots, spinning more than propellers and talking about planes, motors or just wishing out loud for the next project. Lester, from Lester's Hobbies was there as usual selling parts like crazy and bringing in orders for the customers so they escape shipping charges. Being mobile is a great service to his customers and a great way for him to keep in touch with everyone at numerous events.

KMAS has a very good site with a paved runway as well as a grass strip and plenty of flight tables to accommodate anyone that wants to fly. The club has a versatile club house with power and all the amenities that go with it. The day of the Fun Fly the club cooked up some tasty hamburgers and hot dogs served along with coffee and soft drinks.

Terry Faulkner acted as the MC and explained to the spectators what planes were flying and the manouvers that the pilots were doing.

Thanks to the Kamloops club for putting on a real good fun fly even though the weather was less than ideal. Due to their energy and enthusiasm everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. If you want to attend next years Fun Fly or any other event they host, they are located in Heffley Creek just off the No. 5 Yellowhead Highway. If you want to check out their website www.kmasrc.ca for more information regarding their upcoming events or next years May Fun Fly.
