High Country Flyers 2008 Big Bird

Author: Bill Cousins

The High Country Flyers put on another spectacular Big Bird event this year with flyers attending from Washington State, Alberta and all areas of British Columbia. The event was held July 5th and 6th .

Most of the flyers arrived on Friday and the flying started Saturday morning. Although Saturday was windy and cold, a few braved it and flew anyway. Sunday was warm and sunny with almost no wind. It was a big change from Saturday.

Despite the high gas prices, there was a good turnout and lots of spectators in attendance. Lester's Hobbies was there to help anyone out with supplies and to spark interest in any newcomers. Being mobile is a great asset for Lester and to all the modelers.

The Lions Paddlewheeler Club from Kamloops were there serving hamburgers and refreshments for the hungry and thirsty crowd.

All in all it was a very exciting weekend with lots of flying being done and everyone enjoying themselves. There were also lots of pilot draws and prizes handed out throughout the weekend.

Putting on any type of event is no small task and it takes a lot of volunteers to make it happen. My hat is off to everyone who contributed to the weekend. And once again, well done to the High Country Flyers.
